The COIF ‘Get Mentored” school program aligns with the United Nation’s Sustainable Goal #4 (UN SDG4) –Education - to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”, and African Union (AU) Agenda 2063 Goals# 2 & 18 – “Well Educated Citizens and Skills revolution underpinned by Science, Technology and Innovation” and “Engaged and Empowered Youth and Children”.
It combines mentoring support, career planning, leadership & entrepreneurship training to elementary, junior and senior secondary school students. The program seeks to bridge the gap in the school curriculum and reduce factors that lead to negative outcomes such as educational failure, lack of innovation and involvement in delinquent activities.
The key outcomes for the program are to positively impact student developmental areas such as creativity, innovation, self-worth, confidence, connectedness to school, family, community and nation, and gaining and practicing new skills and interests. In ‘Get Mentored’, we focus on the Six Cs of youth development namely; Creativity, Competence, Confidence, Connections, Character, and Compassion.
Some of the other goals of the program include increasing performance and efficiency while decreasing the risk of early pregnancy, early marriage or drop outs. In this program, the mentorship received can yield a wide range of tangible benefits for students including improved grades and becoming more responsible citizens and leaders.
